Accelerated Reader Program

Would you like your child to become a better reader? Accelerated Reader is a reading motivational program designed to improve comprehension and vocabulary. Kindergarten thru 2nd grade students can participate once they know 100 sight words. For more information contact our media specialist - Mrs. Blanco (ceblanco@dadeschool.net).

 



HOW AR WORKS

  1. READ A BOOK in English or Spanish within your reading level.
  2. TAKE AN AR QUIZ on the computers in the library.
  3. EARN POINTS for correct answers.
  4. RECEIVE BOOK BAG TAGS to display
  5. REACH THE LIFE PRESERVER LEVEL and you'll receive a tag plus an AR t-shirt to wear on spirit Wednesday and your photo will be displayed on the media center bulletin board.
  6. NEW THIS YEAR reach the Life Preserver level more than once and receive the Admiral tag to proudly display.


Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I find out my child's reading level?

You can ask your teacher for your child's level or simply start with books that match your child's grade. Ex. 1.0-1.5 for 1st grade, 2.0-2.5 for 2nd grade, etc.

 

Q: How do I find what level a book is?

All books in the Coral Reef Library are labeled with the AR Level on the inside cover. The associated points can be found there as well. If you find a book in the regular library you can lookup the title on http://www.arbookfind.com to find the book's reading level. Please note – Not every book is an AR book!

 

Q: Where and when can we take quizzes?

Quizzes can be taken in The Media Center. It is open every day from 1:50pm-3:30pm. Sit down at any of the computers and double-click on the Renaissance icon. Enter your child's username and password. If are unsure of the login information there is a binder at the desk where you can lookup your child's information.

 

Q: Can I read the same book in English and Spanish?

You can either read the book in English or Spanish but not both.

 

Q: Can I have the book with me while I take the test?

Your child may not have the book with them while they are taking the test.

 

Q: Can my parent help me with the test?

The test are meant to be taken by the child only. Parents may wait while the child is taking the test but may not help with the answers.

 

Q: What are the points needed to receive book bag tags after each grading period?

 

 

Q: What other recognition will my child receive?

At the Life Preserver Level or above you child will be featured on the media center bulletin board!
